Now that you are getting a puppy, you're going to need a few things. This is a list of all of our must haves that I recommend for dogs young and old. It includes the basics, and a few extras that I feel are necessary. All of the items that are listed are easy to purchase online.
-
You need to enroll your puppy in some kind of training, I recommend Baxter and Bella because they are an online training that you can take anywhere. They also offer one on one online sessions with a trainer that you can ask the trainer whatever questions you desire. I have really liked that because if I have a behavior that I want to stop my puppy from doing, I schedule a call and the trainers give you specific solutions to help you and your puppy. They also have a ton of resources and I actually recommend getting it BEFORE you bring your puppy to your house. Get familiar with the program so you know what to do before the puppy even gets home. We have a discount code for them as well, it is OODLESUT. It gets you 25% off of the total cost of the membership. The membership is a one time fee so you can use it will all your dogs in the future as well!!

Collar for your pup along with some form of identification. You need a tag with the information to get your puppy home incase he/she gets lost. We get our tags from PetSmart because they have an engraver there to put your information on it. I love anything biothane because you rinse with water and soap, its clean. It is the perfect material for any puppy. I also love to get some fun collars with designs as well. I love Shop Imomi and their collars. They have an amazing quality products that last a long time. The collars I have purchase have been everywhere from dirty mud pits and to the lake with us. They have really held up and I will only purchase biothane collars from them now on. I will link both the links for biothane here, and the patterned collars here. We have a discount for Furlou and it is "OOODLESOFDOODLES15", and a discount to Shop Imomi which is "OODLES10", make sure to add that to your order to save you some $.
-
Leash- I recommend a 6 foot leash and a longer one. I use a 6 foot leash for everyday walks and training. I use a longer one to work on recall. I will link a couple here for some options. I repeat, I love anything biothane because they are so easy to clean, but I love Furlou's rope leashes as well for a cute leash to have. Here are the links to Furlou's leashes and Biothane leash links. Once again, e have a discount for Furlou and it is "OOODLESOFDOODLES15", and a discount to Shop Imomi which is "OODLES10", make sure to add that to your order to save you some $.
-
Crate that is just enough so that they can turn around
-
Bed for the puppy. I love using an elevated bed to also help with training and the "place command"
-
Bandanas of course, make sure to use our code "OODLES10" to get a discount on your order ;). Wild Dood is always coming out with new styles for every season.
-
Play Pen to let them get used to you and your family but not have access to the whole house. I don't allow my puppies to have full access of my house until I am confident that they won't unleash havoc on my house. It is to protect my house and establish boundaries before they have full access of the house. Baxter and Bella talk about this in their training.
-
Food and water bowls, I love the one linked because it had a slow feeder that you can put in the food bowl. I love using slow feeders because your dog or puppy can not eat the food too fast and it helps with mental stimulation and a boredom buster. You can also remove the slow feeder to wash it or just have it out. The best of all worlds!
-
Food- Life’s Abundance Food, make sure to purchase that at least 3 weeks before to have it at your house at the time the puppy comes to you.
-
Airtight Food Container and Treat Container. I really love the food container because it has wheels and comes with a scoop. It also has a large treat container that you could use. I personally like having a smaller one for the counter so it is to get to when you want to reward your puppy. It is important to have an air tight container so your food does not go bad, and it can help keep your pup out because it locks.
-
Brushes- Slicker brush and Stainless Steel comb. The slicker brush will get the top layer of the dogs hair but you will need the steel comb to get the underneath. There are lots of small knots or mats underneath that can get big fast. I use these brushed daily on my pups. I love the self cleaning option because it makes it 10x easier to remove the hair from the brush.
-
Nail Clippers to trim your dogs nails so they don't turn into little daggers.
-
Benebones for your pup to chew on when they are teething, this one is my pups favorite.
-
Freeze Dried meat, smaller for training treats and larger ones for potty training. These are high value treats, I have found that my dogs love these treats more than other I have used. They also love these training treats from Life's Abundance.
-
Kong Toys for a boredom buster.
-
Tennis balls to play fetch.
-
Poop bags and a poop bag holder. Furlou also has some really cute bag holders. I love having a holder because you don't have to carry the bags around, they just attach to our leash. You can also just get one on Amazon and I highly recommend these ones.
-
Collapsible bowls for traveling, because its easier to have these bowls but I also love this bottle with an attachment made for dogs.
-
Car Seat cover for traveling to protect your seats and your car.
-
Harness for your pup. I mostly use my harness the first couple weeks to attach to the seatbelt in the car. It is much safer to use a harness rather than a collar for the car. I also love the harnesses from Furlou, here is the link to their harnesses.
-
Doggie Seat Belt because you want to have a way to secure you puppy in the car. I love this one because it can hook in two different ways to hold your pup, it also expands to go longer or shorter. I keep mine as short as it can go for my little dogs, but if you have a bigger one it can be used for them as well.
-
Paw Washer to wash your pups paws when they come inside or in your car. The worst is muddy paws and this has been a LIFE SAVER for us!
-
Shampoo and Conditioner and also face shampoo because you don't want to get non-tearless shampoo in the puppies eyes.
-
Tangle Spray for after the bath to help with tangles and prevent mats.
I hope this list helps anyone who owns a dog out. I have used these products and have others use them and they have had nothing but amazing reviews. If you have any recommendations not on here, or a review of a product you have used from this list, let me know!
